The Bay Area Economic Recovery Work Plan will be released next week by the project's lead agency, the Bay Area Economic Institute. Since March, East Bay EDA has been involved in recruiting and reviewing the over 470 proposals that were received from throughout the Bay Area, as well as in providing support and consultation to those submitting proposals from the East Bay.
We would like to thank all all those submitting proposals for their hard work throughout this process. Organizations throughout the entire Bay Area have contributed tremendous amounts of time and effort to collaboratively produce a strong, competitive proposal to the State. The selected projects that make up the proposal, as well as the proposal itself, represent the innovation and cooperative spirit of the Bay Area, and highlight the critical role our economic recovery plays in that of the State of California as a whole.
We look forward to sharing the final Recovery Work Plan with our members upon its release. Please look for further communications from us on this matter early next week.

The Bay Area Council and Bay Area Childhood Early Funders have partnered to
release Key to Economic Success in the 21st Century: Investment in Early
Childhood Programs, a report that marks the first partnership of
business and early childhood advocates. The release of the report,
sponsored by US Bank, also marks the initiation of a new Early Childhood Sub
Committee for the Bay Area Council, the committee will be chaired by Ken
McNeely, President of AT&T California.
According to the report, "If the Bay Area is to maintain its competitive advantage in
the 21st century and stay ahead of other rival metropolitan regions who would
seek to succeed us as the world’s innovation leader; regions such as Shanghai,
London, Bangalore or Dublin, we need to ensure that the young people entering
our workforce have the best possible education and possess all the necessary
skills to succeed."
The report release event, which was held May 21
at the East Bay
Community Center's James Irvine Foundation
Conference Center, and hosted by the Community
Foundation's President & CEO Nicole Taylor,
was attended by representatives of business,
nonprofit, government and the educational
community.

May 18th through 21st East Bay EDA joined Team California and economic development organizations from around the state to market California to the
over 14,000 industry leaders, service providers and others (including eight governors) who attended the 2009 BIO conference and trade show in Atlanta,
GA. Each year East Bay EDA attends selected industry events to learn more about these key industry clusters and to promote the East Bay’s many advantages to the companies in these sectors.
BIO is one of our most important shows due to the large number of biotechnology and medical device companies in the East Bay and because BIO is the nation’s largest and most important show for this industry. At the show, a number of people were interested in the development of our clean tech industry and overall, there was considerable interest in the East Bay’s biotech story. EDA will be sending additional information to several trade magazines that are considering potential future articles.

Sub-regional clusters of business groups, utilities, cities and counties are joining forces throughout the East Bay to accomplish economic development goals for their localities. These compact, collaborative groups which include the East Bay Green Corridor, the Central, East and West Contra Costa County Economic Development Groups, and the Northern Silicon Valley Partnership, are working to develop individual economic development strategies within the broader regional efforts of the East Bay EDA.
One exciting development to come from the East Bay Green Corridor (EBGC) is the hiring of a Program Manager who will act as staff to the many agencies that form the EBGC. This position, funded by EBGC member agencies, will be housed in the East Bay EDA offices and should place the East Bay in a strong position to sustain and capitalize upon our region's world leadership in green sector investment and employment.
Economic Development Sub-groups in Contra Costa County met earlier this year to discuss county-wide economic development goals. It was determined that a strategy for branding and marketing of business and recreation in the region was necessary. As a result, sub-groups have worked recently with Comcast Communications to develop television and internet campaigns.
The Northern Silicon Valley Partnership (Union City, Fremont, Hayward and Newark) is organizing a free Entrepreneur Pitch Event in the green tech and alternative energy industries. This no charge event promotes connections between entrepreneurs and investors, fostering introductions, conversations, brief pitches, and exchange of contact information. The program will include opportunities for a limited number of entrepreneurs in green technology ventures to present a short business pitch to investor panelists and receive feedback. The event will be held from 9:00 am – 11:00 am, July 16, 2009 at Fremont's City Hall (3300 Capitol Avenue in Fremont). There is no cost to attend this event, but pitch slots are limited. To submit your pitch request contact info@businessvaluealliance.net by June 22, 2009.
