East Bay EDA Board of Directors' Retreat Will Focus on the East Bay Economy

On April 10, 2009 the East Bay EDA's Board of Directors will meet for their annual retreat at the Ohlone College Newark Campus. The half day event will provide an opportunity for the Board members to evaluate the performance of East Bay EDA’s and set the organizations program priorities and work program for the year. This year's retreat will feature a mid-quarter forecast from UCLA Senior Economist Jerry Nickelsburg who will discuss the impact of the recession on the East Bay's industry sectors and public finance challenges.

The Board will also discuss the draft Bay Area's "Regional Economic Recovery Plan" being prepared by the Bay Area Council’s Economic Institute in collaboration with East Bay EDA at the request of Secretary Dale Bonner of the Business Transportation & Housing agency (BTH). The Bay Area’s plan will be used by BT&H and other the state agencies in their allocation of federal stimulus funding to local communities and projects throughout California. Participate in our 2008 East Bay Indicators Report Survey

On November 12th and 14th the East Bay EDA co-hosted two events with United Way of the Bay Area to to release the 2008 East Bay Indicators Report. The 2008 report features data and analysis on the status of the East Bay’s employment, industry, real estate, construction, health, education, and environmental health and includes a special section entitled “What We Can Do” that highlights five outstanding examples of cross-sector collaboration doing work in the Bay Area today. At these events attendees were seated with representatives from the government, nonprofit and private sectors, and were encouraged to brainstorm ideas for cross-sector collaboration.

Now that our readers have had a number of months to read and evaluate the report, we'd like to know how you're using the report and what specific areas your organization would like to see East Bay EDA and United Way of the Bay Area focus on throughout 2009. Take the East Bay Indicators Report Survey (5 questions).

The report is available at our website in PDF format and hard copies can be ordered (at no charge) by contacting Stephanie Brown at 510-272-6843. Download 2008 East Bay Indicators report
