On April 10, 2009 the East Bay EDA's Board of Directors will meet for their annual retreat at the Ohlone College Newark Campus. The half day event will provide an opportunity for the Board members to evaluate the performance of East Bay EDA’s and set the organizations program priorities and work program for the year. This year's retreat will feature a mid-quarter forecast from UCLA Senior Economist Jerry Nickelsburg who will discuss the impact of the recession on the East Bay's industry sectors and public finance challenges.
The Board will also discuss the draft Bay Area's
"Regional Economic Recovery Plan" being prepared
by the Bay Area Council’s Economic Institute in
collaboration with East Bay EDA at the request
of Secretary Dale Bonner of the Business
Transportation & Housing agency (BTH). The Bay
Area’s plan will be used by BT&H and other the
state agencies in their allocation of federal
stimulus funding to local communities and
projects throughout California.

The East Bay EDA's annual Legislative Reception & East Bay Vision Awards program was held Thursday January 8, 2009 at the Oakland Museum of California. State Senator Loni Hancock was honored with a special recognition gift from Stopwaste.Org as well as the East Bay EDA legislative recognition gift. Also recognized and presented with a special resolution on behalf of East Bay EDA was former State Assemblyman Guy Houston for his many years of service to the Tri-Valley and greater East Bay region.
Following a talk by KCBS political analyst and SFSU Political Communications Professor, Joe Tuman, the reception's opening remarks were provided by East Bay EDA Chair, Alameda Supervisor Keith Carson. East Bay EDA executive committee members Shiyama Clunie of AT&T and Doug Siden, Director for the East Bay Regional Park District provided the introductions and recognition of the legislators and legislative staff who were in attendance.
East Bay EDA Vice Chair, Mike Brown of Walnut Creek law firm Morgan Miller Blair, presented this year's East Bay Vision Awards to two individuals who have made significant contributions to the region throughout their careers in both the public and private sectors. Receiving the East Bay Vision Award for the Public Sector was Janet Lockhart, former Mayor of the City of Dublin. The Private Sector East Bay Vision Award was awarded to Jim Falaschi, President of Transbay Holdings and Partner at Jack London Square Partners, the lead developer of Oakland's Jack London Square.

East Bay EDA would like to give special recognition and thanks to this year's
event planning committee, chaired by Shiyama Clunie of AT&T. The committee
included Tim Silva, Wells Fargo; Steven Brooks, Alameda County Office of
Education; Tom Guarino, PG&E and Janet Lockhart, former Dublin Mayor.
On November 12th and 14th the East Bay EDA co-hosted two events with United Way of the Bay Area to to release the
2008 East Bay Indicators Report.
The 2008 report features data and analysis on the status of the East Bay’s employment, industry, real estate, construction, health, education, and environmental health and includes a special section entitled “What We Can Do” that highlights five outstanding examples of cross-sector collaboration doing work in the Bay Area today.
At these events attendees were seated with
representatives from the government,
nonprofit and private sectors, and were
encouraged to brainstorm ideas for
cross-sector collaboration.

in Las Vegas, connecting with 5,000 renewable energy power professionals, 300 exhibitors for involved in the renewable energy industry.
