Norma Rees has been president of CSU East Bay since July 1990, championing efforts to increase access for Alameda and Contra Costa County residents and challenging the university community to meet the needs of our changing workplace. From development of the first CSU Multi-Media Masters program to preparing tomorrow’s K-12 educators, the University has been an innovator and advocate for change.
Under her leadership, the University has expanded its campus in Hayward with this year’s opening of the Wayne and Gladys Valley Business & Technology Center as well as other improvements, including a new addition to the resident’s hall and student center. The University’s Concord campus also expanded during this period enhancing learning opportunities for East Bay residents.
The opening of the Oakland professional center as well as the Small Business Development Center addresses employers and workers’ continuing education needs.
The University also established the first CSU overseas management professional development program, further enriching the educational exchange for faculty and students.
Beyond her University responsibilities, Norma Rees is recognized for giving back to the community. She is active in many civic organizations and continues to play a key leadership role in statewide educational reform.
Norma has been involved in EDAB's leadership since its beginning in 1990 and currently serves as EDAB's 2nd Vice Chair.
Congratulations to Norma Rees, the “2006 East Bay Vision Award” recipient.
