Senator Ellen Corbett was the first
to receive a special Resolution recognizing her efforts
on behalf of the East Bay.
Senator Ellen Corbett has been the
representative of California State Senate District 10
since being elected in 2006, serving six years in the
State Assembly prior to joining the Senate; is an
advocate for supporting transportation improvements,
environmental projects and economic development
opportunities; serves
as chair of the Senate judiciary Committee and member of
Appropriations; Budget; Business, Professions and
Economic Development; Energy, Utilities and
Communications; Environmental Quality and Legislative
Ethics; is devoted to fighting climate change and is a
strong advocate for environmental issues affecting our
region, authoring bills to increase Container Recycling
and encourage the production of energy efficient
vehicles in California; and an activist for protecting
consumer’s rights, where she led efforts to vote bills
on provide essential water quality information to
consumers; and Car Buyers Protection Act.

California State Senate in November 2008 and represents
the 9th Senate District;
is a tireless advocate and for environmental
protection and sustainable economic development, health

Amendments and member of Appropriations, Education,
Environmental Quality and Food and Agriculture Public
Safety; has been instrumental in the creation of
programs to spur workforce development and educational
opportunities for youth and adults in the East Bay and
throughout California.

Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan
was elected to the California State Assembly in 2008,
representing the 15th Assembly District;
devoting over 20 years of public service to
education and students in the San Ramon Valley; is an
advocate for children and families and has worked to
protect public school funds, and to bring school-age
childcare and amenities to the East Bay; and is
Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Innovation and
the Bay Area Economy and
a member of the Assembly
Committees on Education, Transportation and Utilities
and Commerce.

Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi was
elected to the California State Assembly in November
2006, representing the 18th Assembly District;
is a strong advocate for health care reform,

uninsured Californians; has written legislation

green building practices to reduce global warming; and
is Chair of the
Assembly Business and Professions Committee and Assembly
Select Committee on Community Colleges and
a member of the Assembly Health Committee.

Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner was
elected to the California State Assembly in November
2008, representing the 14th Assembly District of
California; is a strong

sound policies and procedures; and
is Chair of the
Assembly Committee on Natural Resources and a member of
the Committees on Appropriations, Local Government,
Public Safety and Utilities and Commerce.

Assemblyman Sandre Swanson with his Resolution of
Appreciation
Assemblyman Sandre Swanson has made
the health, safety and education of children and
families his top priorities, working to minimize air
pollution in the East Bay, improve local schools,
and create employment opportunities for youth;
has been a strong advocate in support of worker’s rights
for over 30 years, writing legislation to provide
workers with a living wage, quality benefits, and decent
working conditions; and
is committed to reinvigorating the economic vitality of
the East Bay and retaining one of Northern California’s
main economic drivers, managing the successful effort to
secure Congressional authorization for a $252 million
dredging project for the Port of Oakland.

| Anne Taylor (a CSU East Bay alumni)
representing Congresswomen Barbara Lee, who
has served the 9th Congressional District of California
in the East Bay of San Francisco since 1998; sits on the
House Appropriations Committee where she is a member of
the Subcommittees on Labor, Health and Human Services,
Education and related agencies; Foreign Operations and
Financial Services; is co-chair of the
Congressional Out of Poverty Caucus, where she works to
eradicate poverty, foster opportunity and protect the
most vulnerable in our society; has fought to create
quality, high-paying jobs for her constituents in the
East Bay and for workers throughout the nation; and
as a member of
the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education (LHHS)
Appropriations Subcommittee, has been instrumental in
expanding Access to Job Training and Employment
Services.

establishing the Tri-Valley as one of the East Bay’s premier

East Bay EDA – and chaired the organizing committee in 1988
that established East Bay EDA |

Nicole Taylor, Executive Director of the East Bay Community
Foundation and an Officer of the East Bay EDA wrapped things
up for the event by expressing her congratulations to Joe
Callahan and Pat O’Brien, and thanking our State and Federal
officials who were able to participate in tonight’s
reception and awards program.
A special thanks went to our
event sponsor, AT&T, and our co-sponsors, the Cities and
Counties of Alameda and Contra Costa, the Alameda County
Special Districts’ Association and Cal State East Bay,
without whose support the event could not be possible. She
also thanked the members of our Reception planning
