Early registrants were greeted with a warm East Bay sunset, viewed from the CSU East Bay campus in the Hayward Hills.

The reception location accommodated the 190 attendees, a variety of tables. great food and conversation, with back-group piano music, in very nice, open and scenic venue.

Senator Ellen Corbett was the first to receive a special Resolution recognizing her efforts on behalf of the East Bay.

Senator Ellen Corbett has been the representative of California State Senate District 10 since being elected in 2006, serving six years in the State Assembly prior to joining the Senate; is an advocate for supporting transportation improvements, environmental projects and economic development opportunities; serves as chair of the Senate judiciary Committee and member of Appropriations; Budget; Business, Professions and Economic Development; Energy, Utilities and Communications; Environmental Quality and Legislative Ethics; is devoted to fighting climate change and is a strong advocate for environmental issues affecting our region, authoring bills to increase Container Recycling and encourage the production of energy efficient vehicles in California; and an activist for protecting consumer’s rights, where she led efforts to vote bills on provide essential water quality information to consumers; and Car Buyers Protection Act.

Senator Loni Hancock elected to the California State Senate in November 2008 and represents the 9th Senate District; is a tireless advocate and for environmental protection and sustainable economic development, health care and educational reform, and social justice; and serves on several committees, where she is Chair of Elections, Reapportionment and Constitutional Amendments and member of Appropriations, Education, Environmental Quality and Food and Agriculture Public Safety; has been instrumental in the creation of programs to spur workforce development and educational opportunities for youth and adults in the East Bay and throughout California.

 Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan was elected to the California State Assembly in 2008, representing the 15th Assembly District; devoting over 20 years of public service to education and students in the San Ramon Valley; is an advocate for children and families and has worked to protect public school funds, and to bring school-age childcare and amenities to the East Bay; and is Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Innovation and the Bay Area Economy and a member of the Assembly Committees on Education, Transportation and Utilities and Commerce.

Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi was elected to the California State Assembly in November 2006, representing the 18th Assembly District; is a strong advocate for health care reform, working to protect the rights of both insured and uninsured Californians; has written legislation encouraging and supporting the public sector in adopting green building practices to reduce global warming; and is Chair of the Assembly Business and Professions Committee and Assembly Select Committee on Community Colleges and a member of the Assembly Health Committee.

Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner was elected to the California State Assembly in November 2008, representing the 14th Assembly District of California; is a strong advocate for the environment and for fostering the creation of green businesses and jobs; has worked to encourage local governments to adopt environmentally sound policies and procedures; and is Chair of the Assembly Committee on Natural Resources and a member of the Committees on Appropriations, Local Government, Public Safety and Utilities and Commerce.

Assemblyman Sandre Swanson has made the health, safety and education of children and families his top priorities, working to minimize air pollution in the East Bay, improve local schools, and create employment opportunities for youth; has been a strong advocate in support of worker’s rights for over 30 years, writing legislation to provide workers with a living wage, quality benefits, and decent working conditions; and is committed to reinvigorating the economic vitality of the East Bay and retaining one of Northern California’s main economic drivers, managing the successful effort to secure Congressional authorization for a $252 million dredging project for the Port of Oakland.

has served the 9th Congressional District of California in the East Bay of San Francisco since 1998; sits on the House Appropriations Committee where she is a member of the Subcommittees on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and related agencies; Foreign Operations and  Financial Services; is co-chair of the Congressional Out of Poverty Caucus, where she works to eradicate poverty, foster opportunity and protect the most vulnerable in our society; has fought to create quality, high-paying jobs for her constituents in the East Bay and for workers throughout the nation; and as a member of the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education (LHHS) Appropriations Subcommittee, has been instrumental in expanding Access to Job Training and Employment Services.


 

Annually, The East Bay Economic Development Alliance - representing business, civic and community leaders - recognizes individuals who have contributed to the advancement of economic development and enhancement of the quality of life in the East Bay region.
Joining this elite group are in 2009 is the General Manager of the East Bay Regional Park District, Pat O’Brien - for his incredible leadership of one of the gems of our region for the past 20 years – promoting the economic, social and environmental benefits of literally hundreds of thousands of acres of protected and enhanced parklands throughout the East Bay Patrick O'Brien and Mike Brown award photo

·       The second honoree is Joe Callahan, President of Callahan Properties, and master developer of one of the East Bay’s economic “hot spots” - the Hacienda Business Park - and for his innovative leadership over the years in establishing the Tri-Valley as one of the East Bay’s premier business locations.  Joe is also a founding member of the East Bay EDA – and chaired the organizing committee in 1988 that established East Bay EDA

Legislative Delegation and recognition awards
The East Bay delegation also presented each of the Vision Awardees with a special recognition from the California Legislative Assembly.

Nicole Taylor, Executive Director of the East Bay Community Foundation and an Officer of the East Bay EDA wrapped things up for the event by expressing her congratulations to Joe Callahan and Pat O’Brien, and thanking our State and Federal officials who were able to participate in tonight’s reception and awards program. 

A special thanks went to our event sponsor, AT&T, and our co-sponsors, the Cities and Counties of Alameda and Contra Costa, the Alameda County Special Districts’ Association and Cal State East Bay, without whose support the event could not be possible. She also thanked the members of our Reception planning committee, with a special thanks to the committee Chair, Shiyama Clunie, who spearheaded the planning of this event.
