EDAB 2003 Winter Membership Meeting

Annually, this meeting is one of EDAB’s most popular events with many requests for copies of the information presented. The first General Membership meeting of 2003 featured Dr. Christopher Thornberg, Senior Economist for the UCLA Anderson Forecast, delivering his 2003 East Bay Economic Forecast, as well as a panel of distinguished local business and government leaders discussing their perspectives on the year ahead.

The UCLA Anderson Forecast is a highly respected national economic forecasting service that is widely quoted throughout the country. Dr. Thornberg is responsible for the Forecast’s regional reports including Los Angeles and the East Bay. Besides his regional expertise, Dr. Thornberg’s work has included measuring the impacts of the NAFTA agreement, the recent California power crisis, and the September 11 terrorist attacks on the California economy. He authors EDAB’s East Bay Quarterly Forecast (emailed newsletter) and advises in the production of the East Bay Monthly. Following Dr. Thornberg’s comments, Drew Voros, Business Editor for the Alameda Newspaper Group moderated an East Bay business and government leader panel consisting of:

Edward Del Beccaro, Managing Partner of Colliers International, Walnut Creek office (His PowerPoint Presentation can be viewed by selecting the following link: DelBeccaro1-24-03.ppt).

Willie Natt, Oakland Market Area Manager for Wells Fargo Bank. Mr. Natt has 26 years of banking experience and oversees the daily sales and operations for Wells Fargo locations throughout Oakland, Alameda, and the Piedmont area.

Michael Fenley, General Manager of Hilltop Mall, located in Richmond, CA. Mr. Fenley has managerial experience in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Nevada, Connecticut, and Michigan.

Susan Muranishi, Alameda County Administrator. Ms. Muranishi has administrative oversight over a $1.6 billion budget providing a variety of services to Alameda County.

EDAB Chairman Keith Carson (Alameda County Supervisor) provided over 160 attendees with an update of EDAB’s last quarter accomplishments and priorities for the first quarter of 2003.
