EAST BAY CONSTRUCTION PAYROLL EMPLOYMENT

Both the month-over-month and year-over-year changes in the East Bay’s construction sector reflect the housing construction downturn affecting the entire nation, with new jobs in infrastructure-related construction and specialty trade contractors making up a majority of gains in this sector. Seasonal losses can be attributed to the total decrease in construction jobs of 4,200 between December 2007 and January 2008, however this number is higher than the East Bay’s average December-January loss of 3,100 construction jobs.
