TEU Traffic & Airline Passengers

The traffic of imports transported in full twenty-foot equivalent (TEU) containers at the Port of Oakland have posted year-over-year decreases since the beginning of 2008, while exports have continued to grow. Both import and export empty TEUs declined in July 2008 when compared with July 2007.

Oakland International and San Jose Mineta
Airports continued to see year-over-year
decreases in passenger traffic in June, as San
Francisco Airport continued to post annual
growth. Various air carrier closures and
reductions in the number of flights have caused
ridership numbers at Oakland International and
San Jose MIneta to trend downward since the fall
of 2007. This trend has sent more traffic
to SFO as airlines consolidate flights to
metropolitan areas in an effort to cut down on
costs. |
