Traffic of full import containers traveling through the Port of Oakland decreased 20.7 percent between June 2008 and June 2009 while full exports increased 4.3 percent. Empty container imports decreased 17.0 percent and empty exports decreased 52.3 percent.

Various air carrier closures and reductions in the number of flights have caused ridership numbers at Oakland International (OAK) and San Jose Mineta International (SJC) to trend downward since the fall of 2007. Ridership at all three Bay Area international airports was down on an annual basis in June. SFO saw the largest decrease (27.5 percent), while ridership fell 21 percent at OAK and 17.1 percent at SJC.

Hotel occupancy rates have fallen sharply over the last 12 months, with occupancy falling over 18 percent in Oakland/East Bay hotels, and over 13 percent in San Francisco hotels.
