BAY AREA HOME SALES
According to MDA DataQuick, the median price paid for a home in the Bay Area rose to $395,000, up 12.2 percent from $352,000 in June, but down 16.0 percent from $470,000 in July 2008. The median stood 40.6 percent below the peak $665,000 median reached in June and July of 2007.
In the East Bay, Alameda County’s median value was $340,000 – up 1.5 percent over June, but down 22.7 percent since July 2008. The Contra Costa County median home sale value in July 2009 was $261,000 – up 4.4 percent over June, but down 25.4 since July 2008.
A total of 8,771 new and resale houses and condos sold in the nine-county Bay Area last month. That was up 1.5 percent from 8,664 in June and up 15.6 percent from 7,586 in July 2008. In the East Bay, Alameda and Contra Costa Counties both posted sales volume increases between July 2008 and July 2009.
