BAY AREA HOME SALES
According to MDA DataQuick, the median price paid for all new and resale houses and condos last month in the Bay Area fell to $360,000, down 8.9 percent from $395,000 in July and down 19.5 percent from $447,000 in August 2008.
In the East Bay, Alameda County’s median value was $340,000 – unchanged from July, and 22.7 percent lower than in August 2008. The Contra Costa County median home sale value in August 2009 was $261,500 – up slightly since July 2009, but down 20.8 percent since August 2008.
A total of 7,518 new and resale houses and condos closed escrow in the nine-county Bay Area last month. That was down 14.3 percent from 8,771 in July and up 4.0 percent from 7,232 in August 2008. In the East Bay, Alameda county saw a 21 percent increase in sales over August 2008 while in Contra Costa County sales decreased 8.4 percent over the previous year.
