The following tables and graphs compare the 12-month periods of February 2009 to January 2010 and February 2010 to January 2011.
RESIDENTIAL & NON-RESIDENTIAL PERMITS
Residential permit values increased in the Bay Area at 33 percent during the two periods, with the greatest increases occurring in the San Jose (up 92.2 percent) and San Francisco (up 32 percent) regions. Non-residential construction permit values increased slightly overall in the Bay Area at 5 percent, with the greatest increase in the San Francisco region (up 38.3 percent).

COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL PERMITS
Commercial building permit values increased in the Bay Area at 20.4 percent during the two periods, with the greatest increases in the San Francisco (up 215.3 percent) and San Jose (up 32.6 percent) regions. Industrial permit values increased in the Bay Area at 35.5 percent, with the greatest increase in the San Francisco region (up 311.4 percent).

SINGLE AND MULTI-FAMILY PERMITS
The issuance of single-family unit permits decreased in the Bay Area at 4.1 percent during the two periods, with the greatest decreases in the Vallejo (down 22.9 percent) and Napa (down 14 percent) regions. The issuance of multi-family unit permits increased in the Bay Area at 252.6 percent, with the greatest increases in the San Jose (up 793.1 percent) and East Bay (up 214.4 percent) regions.

The following charts show the number and value of single, multi-family, residential and non-residential construction permits issued in East Bay cities for the twelve-month period ending January 2011.
