BAY AREA HOME SALES
BAY AREA HOME SALES
According to MDA DataQuick, the number of Bay Area homes sold in January 2011 was below the month ago level in December 2010, but slightly above the year ago level. This was due to the continued effects of the current housing market leading to distressed sales and bargain hunting. In a year-over-year basis, the median sale price decreased for the four consecutive months due to an increase in foreclosure resales. A total of 4,966 new and resale houses and condos closed escrow in the nine-county Bay Area in January 2011.
